Which year should you choose for a Solar Return reading?

Choose the year of the solar return that starts the cycle you want to explore. A 2027 Solar Return reading refers to the return near your 2027 birthday and the period until the next return, usually in 2028. It is not a January-to-December 2027 planner.

A return year is not a calendar-year planner

A solar return chart is calculated for the instant when the Sun reaches its natal zodiac longitude again. That moment is near the birthday, but it need not share the birthday’s date or birth clock time. In the usual astrological convention, the chart describes a symbolic annual cycle beginning at that return. A calendar-year planner instead organizes January through December. Neither format is a guarantee of future events.

Example: an October birthday

Imagine a fictional reader born on 14 October. In September 2026, the return near their October 2026 birthday is still ahead. Their current cycle began near October 2025, so a reading for that current cycle would normally be labelled 2025 or 2025–2026. To explore the upcoming cycle, they would choose 2026 or 2026–2027. A reading labelled 2027 starts around the birthday in 2027, not in September 2026. These are approximate cycle labels, not calculated return timestamps.

Example: a birthday that has already passed

For a fictional reader with a June birthday, September 2026 falls after the return near June 2026. The 2026 return therefore starts the current cycle, while the 2027 return starts the next one. The useful question is not simply “What year is it today?” but “Which return begins the period I want to read about?” Near the birthday itself, check the exact calculated return time rather than assuming the transition happens at midnight.

Keep birth data and the requested year separate

Your birth date, exact local birth time and birthplace describe the natal input. The requested return year is a different field. Never replace your birth year with the year you want to study. For example, someone born in 1974 requesting a 2027 reading must still enter 1974 in their birth date. Check the year named in the product and order summary before paying. If the product is fixed to a different year, ask the seller before ordering rather than relying on a note to override it.

Check the location as well as the year

Astrologers use different location conventions for return charts. The selected place can change the chart’s angles and houses, so the report should disclose its method. Common questions

Does a 2027 Solar Return reading cover all of 2027?

Not usually. It starts at the return near the 2027 birthday and continues until the next return, usually near the 2028 birthday. A January-to-December planner is a different format.

Should I use my age or my birth year as the return year?

Neither. Keep the original birth year in your birth date. The return year is the calendar year of the return that begins the cycle you want.

Does my chart change on 1 January?

The next solar return chart begins at the next calculated return, not automatically on 1 January. For birthdays close to New Year, verify the exact timestamp and the calculator’s year convention.
