What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Find your birth time in a long-form birth certificate, hospital record or family documents. Learn what remains reliable if the exact time cannot be found.

The short answer
Check your birth certificate or hospital record. Ask the records office whether its document includes the time before ordering it. If you cannot find a reliable time, leave it unknown. Do not enter noon or buy a time-dependent chart using a guess.
Key points
- Start with an original record; a remembered time may be approximate.
- An unknown birth time should stay unknown, not be replaced with noon.
- Date-based reports can still be useful, while chart angles and houses need an exact time.
A birth date and a birth time do different jobs
A birth date is enough for date-based numerology and other symbolic calculations that do not use the position of the horizon. An exact time becomes important when a report calculates the Ascendant, Midheaven, houses or fast-moving chart angles. The useful question is therefore not whether every report needs a time, but whether the specific method you chose depends on it.
Do not replace an unknown time with noon
Entering 12:00 simply to complete a form creates false precision. The resulting houses and angles can look exact even though they are based on an invented input. If a service offers a time-unknown option, it should visibly limit or omit time-sensitive sections instead of presenting an estimated chart as a calculated fact.

Where to look for the original time
Start with the long-form birth certificate or hospital record rather than a family memory. Depending on the country, a civil registry, hospital archive, family baby book or contemporaneous announcement may hold the time. Ask relatives for the source of their memory and record whether they mean an exact clock time or only a broad period such as early morning.
How to find out what time you were born
First identify the office that holds birth records for the place where you were born. In the United States, the CDC directory links to state and territory vital records offices. Ask whether the available certificate or underlying record includes the time of birth before ordering it. A short-form certificate may omit details, and even a full certificate is not a guarantee. If the time is absent, ask the hospital where you were born whether a retained birth record can be requested through its authorized records process.
What to ask the records office
A useful question is: “Does the birth record you issue include the recorded time of birth, and which version should I request?” Check the office’s current identification, authorization, availability and fee requirements directly. Keep a note of the document type, exact clock time and any uncertainty. Family documents can help you narrow down your birth time, but label a remembered time of day as an estimate rather than an official record.
Can birth time rectification recover an exact time?
Birth time rectification is an astrological estimate made by comparing possible charts with reported life events. It is not a recovered hospital timestamp or independently verified record. Different practitioners may reach different estimates. If you use a rectified time, keep that label and the uncertainty range visible. AstraRead does not offer rectification or present an estimated time as a documented one.
What a broad time range can and cannot do
A range such as “between 6 and 8 a.m.” can help an experienced reader identify which placements remain unchanged across the interval, but it is not equivalent to an exact time. If the Ascendant or a house cusp changes within that window, those sections should stay explicitly uncertain. A transparent report distinguishes stable calculations from conditional possibilities.
What AstraRead asks for
Most AstraRead date-based reflection reports can begin with a name and birth date. Products that calculate houses, angles or a detailed natal chart require an exact birth time and birthplace, and the checkout identifies those requirements before payment. If the time is optional, leaving it blank should never silently substitute a made-up value.
Choose the report that matches the data you have
When no trustworthy time can be found, choose a date-based report or free calculator rather than forcing a time-dependent chart. The result may cover a different set of questions, but it will be more honest about what the available information can support. Precision begins with accurate inputs, not with a more complicated diagram.
Common questions
How do you find out the time you were born if it is not on your certificate?
Ask the relevant vital records office whether another available record includes the time. Then ask the birth hospital about retained records and its authorized request process. Family documents may help, but a remembered time remains an estimate.
How can I find someone’s time of birth for a gift?
Ask the recipient or request a record only with the required authorization. Do not guess a private birth time. If asking would spoil the surprise, choose a gift report that needs only the details you can accurately provide.
Can my rising sign tell me my exact birth time?
No. Choosing a rising sign that feels familiar does not establish a recorded birth time. It cannot replace a trustworthy source for a time-dependent chart.
Which AstraRead reports work without a birth time?
The Personal Reflection Report, Birthday Reflection Report and standard Natal Blueprint use a name and birth date without an exact birth time. Deep Natal Chart and Astrocartography require exact birth time and birthplace.
